WEEKLY DEVOTIONAL

Responsibility, Discipleship, and Caring for Lives

Based on the message about the hundredth sheep, spiritual children, and the church's call to love, care, and make disciples.

This week's theme: God did not call us just to receive, but to serve. We are not called just to be cared for, but also to care. The Kingdom grows when each disciple takes responsibility for lives.

MONDAY — What has God entrusted to me?

Key Text

1 Thessalonians 2:8

"So, being very affectionately desirous of you, we were willing to have imparted unto you, not the gospel of God only, but also our own souls, because ye were dear unto us."

Reflection

Paul did not treat people as numbers, projects, or religious responsibilities. He surrendered himself for them. This is responsibility: it is not merely to convey a biblical message, but to open space in one's own life to love, care, and walk alongside. The Gospel is not a theory communicated from a distance; it is shared life.

Practical Application

Think of someone God has placed near you who needs spiritual care. Pray for them today and send a simple message asking how they are doing.

Prayer

Lord, open my eyes to see whom You have entrusted to my hands. Take away the mindset of just receiving from me and give me a heart willing to serve, love, and care. Amen.

TUESDAY — Love beyond my own

Key Text

Matthew 5:46

"For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?"

Reflection

Loving those who love us is natural. Caring for our children, our home, and our friends is important, but this is still the basics. Christ calls us to a greater love: to love those who offer us nothing in return, to reach those who are distant, and to welcome those who may be difficult. Christian maturity appears when our love surpasses the limits of convenience.

Practical Application

Choose someone outside your most comfortable circle and pray for that person. Find a practical way to show attention, honor, or care.

Prayer

Jesus, teach me to love as You love. May my heart not be small, selective, or selfish. Grant me grace to love beyond my own and serve without expecting return. Amen.

WEDNESDAY — The Hundredth Sheep Matters

Key Text

Luke 15:4-6

“What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it?”

Reflection

In human logic, leaving ninety-nine for the sake of one seems excessive. In the logic of the Kingdom, a life is never "just another". To God, people are not statistics; they are children. The lost sheep reveals the heart of the Father: He seeks, finds, carries on His shoulders, and brings back home. This same heart needs to be formed in us.

Practical Application

Write down the name of a person who is distant, cold in faith, or lost. Pray specifically for them throughout the day and ask God for an opportunity to approach.

Prayer

Father, give me Your heart for the hundredth sheep. Do not let me be indifferent to those who are lost. Use my life to seek, carry, and restore people. Amen.

THURSDAY — Caring for Those Already Found

Key Text

John 21:17

“He said to him the third time, 'Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me?' Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, 'Lovest thou me?' And he said unto him, 'Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee.' Jesus said unto him, 'Feed my sheep.'"

Reflection

Jesus did not restore Peter to have him stand still. After the fall, Peter received a call: to feed. This shows that restoration is not only consolation; it is sending. It also shows that within the house there are people who need to be cared for. There are people present in worship, in cell groups, and in family who are lost, weary, or without deep connection.

Practical Application

Look for someone from your cell group, ministry, or faith family. Ask a real question, listen attentively, and pray for that person.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, restore in me the love for Your sheep. May I not discard people due to failures, difficulties, or differences. Teach me to care as You care. Amen.

FRIDAY — A Serving Church Grows

Key Text

Acts 20:35

"It is more blessed to give than to receive."

Reflection

The church grows when the brethren arrive more concerned with serving than receiving. Where everyone comes to receive, no one is served. But where everyone comes to love, encourage, pray, welcome, and disciple, no one leaves empty. The growth of the Kingdom does not start with complicated strategies; it begins in hearts filled with responsibility.

Practical Application

Before the next worship service or cell group, pray this way: “Lord, who can I serve today?” Intentionally arrive looking for someone to bless.

Prayer

God, shape in me a servant's heart. May I not live stuck in "give me," but learn to offer my life, my time, my attention, and my love. Use me to build Your church. Amen.

Challenge of the week: Pray for a distant person, care for someone close, and serve someone without expecting recognition. Responsibility is not talk; it is practice.
